I think it is very obvious which team is the most talented and toughest in the Northeast after tonight.

Bruins lost a game. All teams are bound to lose games. With this shotgun schedule momentum is coming and going for teams all the time. I'm not seeing big game momentum, or crushing defeat carry with teams like it would in the past.

Yep, still Boston.

Ty, I do think you're overblowing the timeout at the end, but alls good.

Julien threw a goon out there and so did Ruff. I don't see what the big deal is.

Ruff’s timeout a punk move that he’d surely cry about

For years now, we’ve seen Lindy Ruff cry about every injustice that’s ever happened to the Buffalo Sabres. To Ruff, everything’s a “joke,” and “disgraceful.”

The Sabres are the victims of multiple conspiracies, all aimed at crumbling the infrastructure of the Sabres’ organization. It’s all one big scam, everyone!

But can you imagine the outcry you’d hear from Ruff and company if the Bruins pulled what he did with 13.6 seconds left in a three-goal game?

Ty, you just lost your cool here.

Ruff's quote was something like "they put MacDermid out for the last shift against a skilled player, I had to call a timeout to get Scott out there." Frankly, I think that's not only reasonable, but kind of old school, which i like. From a sabres fan standpoint, the sabres needed this game. I'm not going to gloat. I just think they're more talented than people think they are and they're tougher than they were last year. Vanek is a GREAT player when healthy. Apparently, he played hurt for most of last season. I hope to see more of the same from him. After 4 losses in a row, I'm happy for my team. Am I going to rub it in Bostons face? No. Everyone looses a game here or there. I still have TONS of respect for Boston and believe it will be a completely different game next time. hey. It's Hockey. I had a good night.

If we played Boston tommorow, in either building, it would be like starting at square one again. And you know they would be ready.

Wait so we put our skilled guys out with a less than thirty seconds or less on the clock. The Bruins counter by putting someone out there who has had quite a few fights in his NHL career. Lindy responds by calling a timeout to ensure our fighter is out there, just to make sure nothing happens. How is this classless again?

totally. We know as Buffalo fans The Lucic/Miller thing is over. And now it's time to play hockey again. We're a different team from last year. Are we a pile of goons? No. But do we have more players than last year that aren't easily intimidated? Yes. Back to just playing hockey and less soap opera.

Interesting that you don't have a problem with the Bruins using their last change to send out a thug against a line of skill players, but whine when the Sabres use their timeout to even the odds.

Whether or not the Bruins planned on doing anything (heck, I would probably even vote that they weren't), Boston brought the "embarrassment" of having Buffalo using their timeout then squarely down on themselves.

Ty, serious question for you. Why do you think Lindy took the timeout?

Exactly! A timeout in most cases would be a d*** move but you can never be too sure with the Bruins. They usually bully the Sabres and they put a MacDermid out to end the game? Ok, shame on Ruff for calling a timeout to get Scott out there just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Because Lindy Ruff finally had his moment to gloat on Boston ice. Lord knows that hasn't come often for him.

That's a sincere answer, by the way. Refuse to believe that MacDermid, a kid with six games of NHL experience whose big league career could be killed with a suspension given his lack of an NHL resume and the role the B's would like to use him in given the injury to Shawn Thornton, was going out there to jump Jason Pominville with 13.6 seconds left in the game. It'd be an incredibly stupid move by both MacDermid and the B's wouldn't put that on the kid.

I understand where you're coming from. But if there's any chance that Macdermid, and I don't know anything about him other than he's a tough kid, will go after Vanek, who may be the key to our season, I would've done the same. I think Julien is just as much at fault for throwing him out there after seeing who the Sabres had out. There's no point to that either.

Just playing devil's advocate here, 'cause I've been in on about a dozen Ruff female dogfits about the Bruins, blown calls, etc. etc. If Julien did that, Ruff would've went bananas. That's all. Some hyperbole in there, sure, but my point remains the same.

If I were a Bruins fan I'd probably feel the same way. Being a Sabres fan, and seeing the way Ruff reacted right before he called the TO, I think it was more for safety.

A beauty of a rivalry

Bruins have done some pretty stupid things in the past. So I wouldn't give them that much respect.

Marchand, classless.

Lucic's hit on Miller, classless.

Recchi's comments on Pacioretty, classless.

List could go on, and on, and on....

I mean, no disrespect to your blogging, but you're really going to whine about a timeout when the Bruins repeatedly 'goon it up', throw sticks at the media with ridiculous quotable one-liners and let Lucic (an arguable heavy-weight) take out middle-weights, etc., in short bouts?

Come on... sounds a little bush-league to me, no?

If this kid wasn't supposed to start anything, why put him out there at the end of the game to begin with? He had played less than 4 minutes up until that point. He was clearly thrown out there to at least stir the pot a little.

You answered your own question. In a foregone conclusion of a game, you're not risking any sort of freak injury to anybody of legitimate importance to your club. MacDermid and the fourth line went out there like they would in any blow out.

Can't remember the last time I saw the Krejci or Bergeron line end a game that was out of reach following an empty-net goal.

And so Lindy responded by calling Time out for the sole purpose of putting the same type of player out there. Nothing classless about wanting to switch the match up.
